Projects and Third-Party Funding
The Makerspace is active in project work and, for example, participates as a partner in externally funded projects related to teaching, research, and knowledge transfer. If you are interested in collaborating on a project, feel free to contact us anytime!
Worldfactory Start-up Center
RUB has restructured its transfer activities and, under the umbrella concept of 'Worldfactory', bundled new forms of collaboration between industry and academia, targeted support for student projects, and start-up initiatives. The Worldfactory Start-up Center, as a concrete project, is funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as an 'Excellence Start-up Center' until the end of 2024 and consists of several subprojects. The development of the large Makerspace in the O-Werk is the largest subproject of the Worldfactory.
Maker in Residence
Our own project Maker in Residence aims to bring innovative multipliers to the Ruhr region who then work as “residents” in the Makerspace for a certain period of time. From there, they offer workshops and other educational formats, create projects together with our users, and bring in fresh perspectives. The project is funded through donations—once sufficient funds have been collected, a call for applications for “residents” is announced.
MentorInn
The MentorInn project emerged from the successful collaboration between the University of Duisburg-Essen, TU Dortmund University, and Ruhr University Bochum on the topic of Design Thinking in teaching. Under the brand Ruhr School of Design Thinking, MentorInn enables the three universities to further develop and open up their innovative teaching together.
MakerForum
The “MakerForum” project in the UFO building on campus was the precursor to the large RUB Makerspace. It was funded through Higher Education Pact funds to improve study conditions and teaching.
