The best way to reach us from a distance is through this contact form. Alternatively, you can also send us an email at makerspace@rub.de.
Phone, Social Networks and Chat Group
The direct line to the Makerspace is our central phone number:
0234 32 26088
Information about phone availability
Normally, when you call the central number you will reach Guido Kissenbeck, the heart and soul of the Makerspace. However, we all cover for each other, so you may also reach different team members on the phone. If you have a specific concern related to a particular area, you are also welcome to call the respective team member directly.
We try to remain as consistently reachable as possible, especially via our central number. However, please understand that there are times when our entire team is assisting users, attending events, in meetings, or otherwise unavailable and therefore cannot answer the phone. In that case, please simply try again later.
We offer the Makerspace community a public chat group that can be accessed via Matrix under the following group name:
#makerspace:ruhr-uni-bochum.de
What is Matrix?
Matrix is an open standard for chatting (and more). The system is used at RUB and many other organizations as a messenger because it provides a good, secure, and open-source alternative to well-known—but privacy-problematic—systems such as Discord, Slack, Telegram, and similar services.
Matrix is federated, which means you can create an account on one of the many public Matrix servers (for example matrix.org, matrix.im – and many more) and then join our group from there. Our group is hosted on the RUB Matrix server (where only RUB members can obtain accounts). All you need to do is search for the group name listed above and click “join.”
TU Dresden has published an excellent German guide to Matrix that we highly recommend to anyone who would like to learn more.

Map of the Area

Right next to our building is the tram stop O-Werk, and at the roundabout in front of the building there is a bus stop with the same name. The stops are served by the following lines:
- Tram line 302: O-Werk – Bochum Central Station – Gelsenkirchen.
- Bus line 372: BO-Querenburg – Laer – Langendreer West – Werne.
- Call-and-ride taxi AST 72. Route: RUB – Markstr. – O-Werk – Laer Mitte.
The call-and-ride taxi must be booked at least 15 minutes before departure by calling 0234 33300333 and incurs an additional charge.
Bicycle racks are available at the following locations:
- In front of the building, on the far right next to the foyer.
- Next to the building, on the right side when viewed from the front.
- Behind the building in the parking lot, along the building wall.
Attention: Industrial and construction traffic. Only partial bike lanes available!
Please be careful when cycling around the O-Werk area! The roundabout at Opelring is not entirely safe for cyclists. Unfortunately, the markings of the bike lanes near the O-Werk are worn away by heavy truck traffic. In general, due to the logistics center and the many construction sites at Mark 51°7, you should expect a high volume of delivery, industrial, and construction traffic.
The RUB-Makerspace is very easy to reach by car. Via the A40, A43, or A44 you can conveniently access the A448 and from there take the “Bochum-Altenbochum” exit, which brings you almost directly to the Makerspace.
There is a large number of parking spaces behind the building. There are also a few guest parking spaces in front of the building, but these are often occupied and some belong to the daycare center next door. Therefore, please park behind the building if possible. If the barrier at the rear parking lot is closed, simply take a ticket—we will validate it for you after your stay in the Makerspace.

Accessibility
- The Makerspace is accessible by wheelchair. A ramp leads to the front entrance, and there is an elevator at the rear entrance.
- There are several accessible restrooms in the building. The one closest to the Makerspace is located in the basement level (UG) in the central stairwell. The restrooms are locked with a Euro key. The Makerspace itself does not have its own key.
- Unfortunately, the accessible restrooms in the building do not include showers. We do have showers in our changing rooms in the basement. These are also not designed to be accessible but are at least level with the floor. If we can help in any way with access, please let us know.
- If there is anything we can do to make your visit to the Makerspace possible or easier, please feel free to contact us.
- We welcome all forms of feedback, especially regarding accessibility. Please also let us know if you notice anything on our website that we could improve in this respect.
Accessible equipment?
Within our project budget, we have created the possibility to procure equipment and aids for accessibility—for example screen readers, specialized furniture, magnifiers, special tools, and similar items. However, after consultation with the experts responsible for inclusion at AKAFÖ, we decided to allocate these resources based on actual needs rather than speculating about what might be required. So please do not hesitate to approach us with suggestions for purchases if you have specific needs.
