Safety Instructions
Before working in the RUB Makerspace, you must attend the General Safety Briefing at minimum and as your first step. After that, you may work in the workshop areas, and the use of tools is permitted as instructed (for example, using hand tools).
Afterwards, various specialized briefings can be completed as needed. For example, there is a combined briefing for the Digital Lab as well as briefings for operating the laser cutter, the 3D printers, and all other hazardous areas and machines in the Makerspace.
All briefings are valid for a maximum of one year (maximum 6 months for minors).
Exception: Guests
The briefing requirement does not apply to guests who are present in the RUB Makerspace—for example, to participate in tours or events, or to use the co-working area with a laptop—even without formal instruction. However, guests may only carry out activities considered ‘household-standard’—for example, working on their own laptop or using whiteboards and creative materials.
When and how?
The General Safety Briefing takes place once per week exclusively during Open Makerspace hours. You can find the exact dates in the calendar. Some of our specialized briefings are also listed in the calendar—however, these often take place only upon request. So please get in touch if you are interested in a specific device or area!
Introductions, specialized briefings, and individual packages
- Please arrange appointments for specialized briefings and your initial introduction—that is, what your first (learning) steps will look like after the briefing—as early as possible with the team member responsible for the relevant area.
- For courses—depending on capacity, possibly also for other formats—briefing packages can be tailored and delivered at an appropriate point within the course.
- Specialized briefings are not provided “in advance” for an unspecified future, but exclusively on the basis of a concrete project.
