Co-Working Areas

Co-Working Zone on the Ground Floor

Our open co-working zone on the ground floor is our largest event space. It offers a welcoming environment where you can develop your ideas or work on your projects. Here you can meet like-minded people, exchange ideas about “making,” or simply think and create—both independently and collaboratively. The co-working zone is also very suitable for events, as our stage is set up directly in this area and the space can be fully arranged with seating. Larger consortium meetings, pitches, or small fairs can also be easily hosted here.

If you are missing a device to work on, we have laptops that you can borrow for use in the Makerspace, subject to availability. Just talk to us!

"Since 2022, I have been working at the RUB Makerspace and am responsible for user management. In this role, I handle requests related to using the Makerspace and support the organization of events as well as rentals to companies, university chairs, and other interested parties. I would particularly like to highlight my experience in supporting events with up to 70 participants and my responsibility for the Makerspace’s internal administration.

With my many years of experience in the event sector and my extensive expertise in administration and organization, I coordinate the team and serve as a point of contact for many matters. I also enjoy taking on the role of a Lego Serious Play facilitator and supporting creative workshops."

  • Training as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk
  • Certified HR specialist (IHK) / Datev operator / payroll specialist
  • Many years of experience organizing events in theaters and seminar venues

Assembly Zone in the Basement

The assembly zone is located in the basement and is a co-working area that can also be used for hands-on work. Here, for example, you can work on larger projects or assemble items that you have produced in the workshops.

The space can also be booked for events and serves as a general co-working area.

Please be considerate of others and observe safety rules!

The assembly zone is a shared co-working area and also a passageway (for example, for anyone moving between the ground floor and the basement). Therefore, special consideration is required. Dangerous activities, very loud work, or work that generates significant dust are not permitted in this area.

This does not mean that tools such as a hammer, file, cordless screwdriver, and similar equipment cannot or should not be used when assembling or working on a project. However, it is not allowed, for example, to heavily sand materials with a belt sander, cut metal bars with an angle grinder, weld, handle paints or resins, or perform similar activities in this space.

Equipment available as needed:

  • Standard tables and seating
  • Height-adjustable worktables with vises, vacuum clamping devices, etc.
  • Various tools, machines, and other equipment (mobile and available as needed)
  • Sofa area
  • Creative materials and whiteboards/flipcharts
  • Mobile monitor (and projector with portable screen if required)

Kitchenettes

If hunger strikes, or you need coffee or tea to get your brain going, you are very welcome to use one of our kitchenettes! There is one on each floor. Both operate on a self-service basis, although we occasionally provide tea and coffee for everyone when sufficient funds are available in the donation box. In the future, there will also be a drinking water dispenser on each floor (tap water is, of course, already available).

Courtyard

The outdoor area is still under development – click for more information

The courtyard, and especially the plants and projects there, will continue to grow and flourish over time — feel free to support us!
There are already concrete activities related to planting, urban gardening, wild bees, and similar topics in connection with the courtyard. Anyone who enjoys and is interested in such topics and collaboration is welcome to get in touch or stop by.

Our courtyard offers plenty of space, tiered seating blocks, and typical garden infrastructure such as lighting, water connections, and power outlets along the building wall as well as on the pillars on the steps (one connection provides 400V). Our umbrellas are particularly practical — several smaller ones are distributed across the steps. On the flat area, we have two very large umbrellas that can be connected and converted into a large tent with side walls.
