Mobile Makerspaces
Our mobile makerspaces are still under construction – click for more information.
Both of our vehicles are ongoing projects. The VW Crafter has a colorful design and a functional basic setup as described above, but no additional custom fittings yet. In the future, it is planned to receive modular units for various tools and machines.
Our Piaggio Ape is not yet as visually striking. It does have a functional structure, but no further interior equipment with devices and modules so far.
The RUB Makerspace has two vehicles that can be used as mobile makerspaces for workshops and events in external locations, as well as for representational purposes and for transporting personnel and materials.
VW Crafter
We took over the former vehicle of the RUB mail department and gave it a makeover. The old but reliable VW Crafter has already been equipped with a roof terrace, an awning, and a wooden interior including benches and lighting. It has also been given a colorful exterior design along with a few additional visual highlights.
The vehicle is ideal for taking a large amount of equipment to external locations and can be used entirely as a largely self-sufficient exhibition booth.
Piaggio Ape
The Ape may be the smallest mobile makerspace in the world. The vehicle has been converted to electric drive. The rear structure can be opened up to create a stand for workshops and trade fair appearances. In the future, we hope to be present on campus with the Ape on a fairly regular basis. For longer distances and larger exhibition setups, the Ape can also be transported inside the Crafter.
The Ape is ideal for small but eye-catching and high-impact public outreach activities in the surrounding area.
